Momentum building as we approach the 2019 season

During the last two weeks:
• The clubs 175th year celebration weekend has been confirmed as 6th / 7th July – look out for event news shortly.
• The 175 Fun Run Challenge (Sunday 24th March 2019) sponsorship forms continue to be distributed to the colts and seniors. I am sure you have all got plenty of sponsors already. It is shaping up to be a good event/day and remember that the person that raises the most sponsorship will win some FREE club kit.
• Works have started to further improve our impressive pavilion and bring it into the 21st century. This includes new lighting in the main clubhouse area and a new disabled access toilet and improved bar storage. Great additions to the club. Many thanks to Sarah Aubrey for coordinating this and the support of Coe Capital, Swindon Borough Council, LRS Building & Groundwork and Sarah herself to make it happen.
• The club were saddened to hear of the passing of another past club and local community stalwart – Ralph Jones. Our condolences go to Ralphs family and friends. Ralph played, coached and managed youth sides from the 1970’s for at least twenty years. He taught at Churchfields and encouraged many of their students to join our Club, including two of our past chairmen Nick Parkinson and Phil Laggett.
• The ‘200 cub’ is no more, having been rebranded ‘Spin to Win’. This will help us continue to raise money for the club and all the work we do and is open to anyone – just contact alexanderekill@gmail.com to sign up or see @sccspintowin on Twitter. It costs just £3 per month (standing order) or £36 for the year (bank transfer/cash) and our aim is to get 200 people signed up – this will mean bigger prizes and bigger benefits to the club, its membership and the local community.
• The club is hoping to run a ‘Pink day’ in aid of breast cancer awareness this summer – more details to follow. If you would like to help organise this one-day event please get in touch.
• The clubhouse has been a hive of activity with a games night (£250+ raised for club funds – thanks again to Alex Kill for organising), football bar opening, Zumba class and two private hire parties in the last two weeks – Sal Aubrey doing an amazing job as usual. If you are interested in hiring the club for an event please contact Sarah Aubrey.
• Senior and Junior indoor training continues – seniors please note that from now on the sessions will run 21:00 – 22:00 at Croft. Seven weeks left before we get outside in the sun!
• The club will soon welcome two more level 2 coaches, with James Tweedale and Tom Foreman completing the lesson based part of the coaching badges tomorrow, with the supported practice and final assessment to follow.
• We welcome Kirsty Staff, as our new Child Welfare Officer. Kirsty brings a wealth of experience to the role as a teacher at a local secondary school and has already agreed to become a DBS verifier for Wiltshire – SCC and Kirsty already making a difference to the County CW process.
• More 2019 memberships have come in but there are still a number of seniors and juniors yet to make contact/payment. To those that haven’t please see all details here: http://www.swindoncricketclub.co.uk/news/2019-memberships-are-now-due-2386276.html
• Our head groundsman and all-round club legend, Kevin, continues to prep for the coming season. He has recently been doing a lot of tidying and the square has had its late winter treatment following the snowfall. To help Kevin we will again be participating in the Natwest sponsored ‘Club Force’ Day to prep the grounds and pavilion for the coming season – please put 30th March in your diary – more details to follow.

Upcoming:
• Ongoing works to the pavilion.
• Finalised 175 plans.
• More preparation and admin in advance of the coming season. Thanks to all members who are working behind the scenes to allow us all to play care free in the summer.
