U13's bounce back in fine style

After a disappointing midweek cup exit at Goatacre our U13's A side bounced back in terrific style to continue their unbeaten start to the league season with an emphatic 8 wicket victory at South Wilts yesterday.
After losing the toss and being forced to field first, the opening attack of Charlie Hallsworth and Jowan Partridge did a good job in containing the South Wilts openers each bowling 4 tidy overs. Then the fun started with the introduction of Cameron Oliver and skipper Sam Giddings ( bowling off spin) who both bowled unchanged for 7 overs each, Cameron returning 7 overs 2 for 25 and the miserly Sam, who although wicket less, conceded a mere 10 runs in his 7 overs. Some superb enthusiastic ground fielding ( three run outs) and more tidy bowling from the back up seamers ( Nick Viljoen 2 for 20) restricted the hosts to 140-9 off of their 35 overs.
Needing a fraction over 4 runs per over Nick and Sam then opened up against arguably one of the quickest U13's in Wiltshire and coped with everything he bowled at them superbly, Nick, showing maturity beyond his years played a rash shot and was caught for 9 but Sam , who was batting very patiently and was severe on any bad ball was joined by young Ben McLean who also batted with real intelligence, nurdling singles and rotating the strike with Sam .Ben received a vicious lifter when on 12 and was well caught behind off of bat and grill but a good effort none the less. James Pitman then joined Sam and again showed maturity way beyond his years in rotating the strike and helping us get home with only 2 wickets down in the 27th over, James finishing 17 not out and Sam, a superb 72 not out.
Well done again to all the players, an absolute credit to our club.
