Victory in the summer sun!

The 3s traveled to undefeated early season pacesetters, Trowbriddge CC 2nd XI, and came away with the WIN!

After losing the toss, it came as a surprise that TCC asked SCC to bat first on what looked a good pitch, fast sprawling outfield and warm summers day. The SCC batsmen started steadily against some tidy and sharp Trowbridge CC bowling. They also had luck on their side as a number of balls narrowly missed the stumps and catches went down or were just out of reach. It was Trowbridges’ 4th and 5th bowlers that put the brakes on Swindon, with Tanner and Singh picking up the wickets of Oli Gabb (31), Ash Baden (47), Harry Chevis (15) and Adam Davidson (11). This left Swindon teetering, but a fine ball striking partnership between a floppy hat wearing James Tweedale (63) and Steve Laggett (58), plus 16no from Archie Atwell surged the innings score to 266-7.

Following a delicious tea, and rumours of a hard hitting opener, the SCC team took the field. The rumours were true – as Trowbridge got off to a flying start, picking off anything off line from Atwell and Chevis. Atwell then made the break through…….having the dangerous Oakley caught behind….off a NO BALL! This was followed by an enormous strike for six down the ground and after only 8 overs the game seemed to be slipping away from SCC. Atwell regained his composure and in a carbon copy then picked up Oakley caught behind before getting Goddard bowled. Captain Baden then looked to experienced campaigners Tweedale Senior and Chevis to slow the scoring rate. They did that and more finishing with 3-29 from 9 and 1-44 from 9 respectively. Singh and Tallentire then strung together a partnership, with the large partisan/merry(!) crowd getting behind the Trowbridge run chase. SCC did enough to keep the rate climbing though as youngster George Tweedale bowled full, straight and to plan returning 1-24 off 6 overs and Steve Laggett 1-20 off 4 overs to see SCC to a 20 run victory.

After the game the players walked off to applause from around 100 spectators, who had witnessed an excellent game of Wilts Div 3 cricket, just edged by SCC due to the contributions made by all players either with bat, ball or as part of a tidy fielding display.

Up the 3s!
