Outclassed in the batting department

On winning the toss, captain Ash Baden elected to bowl first on what looked like a slow and damp wicket. While it turned out that way, the Chippenham batsmen used there experience on playing on this surface to apply themselves and record a score of 219-6 off 45 overs. Chippenham got off to a very slow start, thanks to excellent opening spells from Nish (7 overs for 19 runs) and Preet (6 overs for 13 runs), bt neither could grab a wicket. Along came Charlie Chevis with a rank long hop first ball to break the deadlock! Young George Tweedale then removed the other opener thanks to a wonder grab from Sanjay, but this brought Pettit and Smith to the crease. While never getting away from SCC, these two batsmen applied themselves well to scores in the 60s, before Preet returned at the end to pick up the wickets his bowling deserved - final figures 9-0-33-3. It is safe to say that the Swindon fielders will be practicing their catching in the coming weeks - with a number of chances going down.

After a delicious tea, the performance went down hill, with a procession of SCC batsmen coming and going to find us 30-5 off of 9 overs! Not what we had planned! Sanjay held some resistance with 21, but the rest of the batsmen couldn't support him ending 60 all out.

Some good positives in the field to restrict a side and impressive glimpses of talent from young players Preet and George T. Also a tidy club debut by Mayank who was unlucky with the ball. Work to do in the catching and batting application departments. We move on to play Potterne 3s next week.
