Rain Ruins The Day

Alex Kill

Author: Dan Harris

With rain forecast it was always likely Saturdays 2nd XI game v Avebury CC 1st XI was going to be affected at some point by rain. In the end a mixture of heavy downpours and a smattering of hail cut short the fixture, despite the best efforts of those who removed a lot of water from the outfield. SCC had got themselves into a useful position to restrict Avebury to a total Swindon would have been confident to chase.

On winning the toss Swindon skipper Harris asked Avebury to bat. Wilson and Weaver bowled well with the new ball, with the former making an early breakthrough, picking up Rheinberg for 3. Gater and Fry then steadied proceedings and ticked the score along studiously, before O’Shea came into the attack and removed three batsmen in a spell of 9-1-26-3, with Avebury going from 68-1 to 113-4. With skipper Harris off the field injured, John Baden come into the attack with his off breaks, which accounted for the dangerous Hartslief. Shortly after the heavens opened, with Avebury 120-5 off 35.3 overs and despite an early tea and great efforts to get the ground playable, a second downpour halted proceedings for the day, with points evenly shared.

Teas – 10/10 – spring rolls making it the best one this season so far.
MOTM – Connor O’Shea with 9-1-26-3
DOTD – Mr J Baden for ‘football’ skills. Fine amount = one six foot light tube!
