Christy Millar Leads the Way with the Bat

The 1s hosted Corsham in a 35 over game which resulted in a strong 8 wicket victory. Having lost the toss, Swindon were but in the field. A tidy opening partnership began with some lovely timed stroke play. The score was kept tight however and as pressure began to build, Conor Taylor (6-27-2) found the edge to leave the score 32-1.

The introduction of spin in the form of Alex Kill (5-15-1) saw the second opener depart at 41-2. Adam Tucker (6-32-2) picked up key middle over wickets after a partnership began to form, along side a sharp piece of fielding from skipper Marc Williamson to leave Corsham on 102-5.

The return of opener Scott McNeill (7-28-2) produced a sharp stumping from Alex Bowles. A highlight of the day came from McNeill’s bowling, as Tucker leapt forwards to take a difficult low catch. Taylors quick blast at the end of the innings picked up the final wicket, leaving Corsham on 144-8 off of their 35 overs.

In reply, Christy Millar put on a delightful display of shots all around the ground. Williamson ably supported, and the pair shared a 50 partnership before Williamson appeared caught in 2 minds and was caught for 13.

Taylor came to the crease, and along with Millar began to push the scoring rate. Millar was eventually retired or an unbeaten 64 and was replaced by Paul Davies, who struck a few nice boundaries before being caught for 17.

By this point the score had moved on to 134 and the victory was in sight. Bowles came to the crease to finish the innings, unbeaten on 4 with Taylor also not out on 39 chasing the required total in 30.1 overs.

Christy Millar – “Preseason for myself has been good for the technical side of my game as I’ve changed a few things whilst batting to get me more comfortable at the crease. For the team it’s been brilliant to beat 3 good sides and everyone has put in a performance to help.

My performance on Saturday felt good to get back into some form batting wise, valuable time in the middle and more overs under the belt.

This season I want to nail down a position in the 1st XI for the first time since I’ve been here, most of all want the team to be more clinical and win the games that we wouldn’t have last season, and to ultimately be successful at the end of the season.”
