Yesterday saw the senior T20 side and a number of supporters travel to Wellington Cricket Club in Somerset for the West of England Premier League T3 T20 Final. This followed victories across a number of qualification rounds.

The match showcased some excellent cricket across the two sides, with Wellington CC coming out victorious. After winning the toss and bowling an eventful first over ended with Wellington 1-1. From there on, runs flowed on an excellent batting track and quick outfield. Luke Desave (38 off 23) and Stian Smith (45 off 18) but the SCC bowlers to the sword, but that was just the warm up as Lakshan Edirisinghe followed with an incredible 121 not out off 51 balls. While Tom Codling had some success (4-0-33-2), Edirisinghe dominated with an array of shots all around the ground including some outrageous scoops, reverse sweeps and pull shots. After a hectic 20 overs SCC were set 243 to win.

The mood was high given the favourable batting conditions, but ultimately the SCC batters could not find the boundary as often as Wellington had. Captain Sam Giddings scored 34 off 18 balls and Marc Williamson 39 off 23, but the SCC standout innings was played by Finn Hobson who was 75 not out off 43 balls. Wellington bowled well as Nathan Yarde stood out (4-0-32-4) as SCC fell short of the target by 47 runs. Congratulations to Wellington CC.

Despite the result, the club are proud of making the T3 T20 final, an achievement in itself as it was open to teams across the four T3 leagues. Sam Giddings has led the troops well and the side has been a good mix of youth and experience, seeing players from the Under 15s and upwards represent the club.

The T20 side now face another big match on Thursday night, home to Goatacre (18:00 start), with a place in the Wiltshire Wallop T20 Finals Day at stake.
