Swindon Cricket Club have been saddened by the news that Dennis O’Neil passed away on Sunday 27th July. Our thoughts at this time are with his family and friends.
Dennis is recalled by many at SCC as a club stalwart, thought to have umpired over 1000 matches, showing his intense love of the sport. Club President Randy Roze commented that he was a widely respected umpire in the cricket community, who was sociable after matches. He did however say that he may have been given out ‘on the shot’ by Dennis a few times! In recent years Dennis could often be found on the boundaries edge, using his extensive knowledge of the sport to comment on the match, the field positioning and shot selection.
Dennis’ family have asked us to share that the funeral will take place on Friday 8th August (10am) at St Peter's Church, Overley Rd, Stratton, Cirencester, GL7 2LP. It is requested that no dark colours are worn, with the aim that those attending will wear something blue. The wake will be held straight after at The Corinium Hotel. If people will be attending the wake Dom O’Neill (07928780244) has asked if you could let him know by end of Monday, to aid catering numbers (be grateful but not compulsory). Any donations are requested to go to Bernardo’s.
