Success at the Grassroots Cricket Awards

Success at the Grassroots Cricket Awards

Daniel Harris

Congratulations Jen & Phil!

Yesterday the club celebrated a number of volunteers as part of the Wiltshire Grassroots Cricket Awards, which are part of the national Cricket Collective Awards. These awards form the recreational game’s annual celebration of the volunteers, young leaders, clubs, and community groups who keep the grassroots game thriving week in, week out.

Whilst we value every one of our volunteers, the club were pleased to have six people shortlisted in 2026:

Jennifer Morris - Newcomer of the year
Shubham Marathe - Young Champion
Shoayb Rahman - Coach of the year
Dave Sharland - Unsung Hero
Mark Defty - Unsung Hero
Phil Laggett - Official of the year

Massive thanks and congratulation to all of our nominees, who all enjoyed an afternoon at Gloucestershire v Surrey as part of the celebrations.

Particular congratulations go to Jen and Phil, who won their categories and will now represent Wiltshire in the national awards!

Jen has thrown herself into club life as a newcomer and has been key in helping off the field, securing sponsorship deals, delivering all the playing shirts, challenging our established ways of working and generally supporting everything the club does.

Phil's recognition is long overdue. He gives up so much time to officiate matches and has a reputation as a fair and high quality umpire. In particular his support of the clubs 2nd XI, Wallop and U19 T20 sides stands out.

It was inspiring to hear stories from around the county of volunteers making a difference at their clubs and in their communities. If you would like to be part of what we do at Swindon CC, please reach out to a committee member or drop us a message at swindoncricketclub@gmail.com
