The season continues apace....

The last couple of weeks have been a bit calmer at the club following the massive 175 celebration weekend. Again, we would like to thank all club members, past and present, who made it such a success.

On the field it is much of the same for the seniors – the 1s are flying high with a massive top of the table clash today (Sat 3rd Aug), the 2s continue to scrap for survival in WCCL Div 1, the 3s continue to win under the fearless leadership of Ash Baden and the 4s perform well with a mixture of some very young players and some that aren’t!

At youth level the U15s, U13s, U13 T20 and U11 T20 are all top of their respective leagues and players through the age groups continue to represent Wiltshire at district and county level. The future is bright!

Off the field things continue apace – here is a snippet on what is being worked on:

  • Pavilion – after some frustrating delays with finalising some of the building works we should all see some more progress soon. The internal delays are the reason we are currently without a dishwasher and serving from plastic glasses - the plumbing needs to be done in conjunction with that for the new disabled toilet. This is a stop gap solution and we hope all club members will support us and the bar staff during this period.
  • Private hire events – Sarah, Sal and the wider bar team continue to host current bookings and we have a steady stream of these over the next few months.
  • Fundraising – following the 175 weekend we are pleased to say that Deacons Jewelers have continued their long running support of the club. We are thankful to Vice President Richard Deacon for the support and urge all club members to support Deacons if the opportunity arises.
  • Fundraising – we have worked hard to secure another outdoor cinema event. We will be screening a different film with a date in September. Tickets will go on sale shortly so keep your eyes on our social media which will publicise the ticket launch.
  • Fireworks 2019 – plans are starting to be formed for our 2019 fireworks event. This has become a staple in our annual fundraising and requires support from club members, particularly on the day/night. Keep your eyes peeled and hopefully you can spare a few hours for the club.
  • Cricket Kit – please can all kit orders that wish to take advantage of the £20 voucher you received as an annual member please be made ASAP. If you haven’t received your voucher please speak to Alex Kill ASAP.

Upcoming events:

Saturday 24th August – our inaugural ‘PINK DAY’ when we will be raising money for ‘against breast cancer’ and Prospect Hospice. The day is held alongside the league game. Karen Millar is helping to organise this. Full details and an event poster are here: https://www.swindoncricketclub.co.uk/calendar/event/pink-saturday-440240

Wednesday 4th September - the County Ground will host the annual President’s XI game against an Arkell’s XI. This is one of the most enjoyable events of the year for the Cricket Club and provides a great opportunity for the Club to entertain its members and supporters in a friendly social gathering. The game starts at 2pm so come along and have a watch and mid-week tipple in the Sun!

FIREWORKS – Our annual family fireworks event will be returning bigger and better in 2019 – look out for details of the date and ticket sales soon. Get them quick when they are released as we have sold out the last two years weeks in advance of the event.
