Rain, rain, go away….

We have lots of events coming up at Swindon CC for the benefit of all our members, players, parents, family and friends – please check the dates below so you don’t miss out!

During the last two weeks:
175 – Tickets are on sale NOW and are selling well. The events are open to all, so players are encouraged to get their tickets asap. We have a great series of events planned (see the attached poster) and we hope club members across the age groups will support these events and help us celebrate the significant 175 year milestone. Tickets and event details are here: https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/whats-on/swindon/swindon-cricket-club/swindon-cricket-club-175-year-celebration-weekend/2019-07-06/13:00/t-oaojxx

The club was saddened to hear of the passing of ex player, David Twine (Twister) on 3rd June 2019. He is fondly remembered by club members. If anyone wishes to attend the funeral, it is being held at Kingsdown Crematorium on Friday 21st June at 13:30.

Cricket activities at the club and through the country, including the World Cup, have been hampered by the weather. We know that Kev our groundsman, along with grounds people around the country, has been working incredible hard to keep as much cricket on as possible. We would like to remind parents and players that in the event that Friday night coaching or Allstars is cancelled we will advertise this ASAP on our Facebook and Twitter pages.

For senior sides the 1s impressive start to the season continues, with the single loss against table toppers Marshfield the only blip in six outings. The seconds are starting to find their feet with a young side and the 3s and 4s continue with mixed results, but with some impressive performances from seasoned players and youngsters alike.

Youth cricket continues at a pace, with Swindon sides faring well across all the age groups.
Our All Stars sessions have been going really well and it is great to see the smiles on the children’s faces at the end of each session. We have a few more sessions to go and we have a special guest planned for the final session…….who could it be?

In the past few weeks the club has held a wedding reception and the Royal Mail Annual Family Fun Day. We would like to thank our team of volunteers who make hosting these events possible. The revenue generated from such events all gets directly invested back into improving the club. If you would like to hire the pavilion or grounds please make contact with Sarah Aubrey, a committee member or send us a message through social media.

We are still on the lookout for more volunteers to help with outfield mowing. If you can spare a few hours please get in touch.

A 175 anniversary book is being compiled by local historian Dick Mattock. £20 secures one of these books and if purchased in advance the book will include your name. Please speak to club President Randy Roze about this. If you have any old club photos or memorabilia, please contact Daniel Harris as it may make the final edit!

Upcoming events:
Sunday 16th June – SCC are attending the Broadgreen Street Food Festival (11:00-16:00) with Wiltshire Cricket. We are there to promote the club, advertise the Chance 2 Shine Street Cricket sessions that Wilts Cricket have been delivering at the Broadgreen Centre and to sample the food! There are also some World Cup tickets up for grabs in a competition. Saturday 22nd June – Youth Cricket World Cup Event – We are hosting a CWC event to help inspire the next generation of Jos Butlers, Ben Stokes and Heather Knights! You need to register your attendance at this event in order that we can provide enough tea and coaches! Weekend of 6th/7th July – the ‘175 celebration weekend’ – keep this clear in your diary and join us at one of the events to celebrate all things Swindon CC and have a good time in the process.

Sunday 21st July – We are hosting an exhibition match between a West of England Premier League XI and a Cric X Agency XI. This will be a great opportunity to see some of the best league players in the south of England play on your doorstep. More details coming soon.

Saturday 24th August – our inaugural ‘PINK DAY’ when we will be raising money for cancer related charities. The day is held alongside the league game. Karen Millar is helping to organise this. Karen’s sister passed away recently and she is raising funds for Prospect by undertaking the Starlight Walk. Details of how you can support Karen and the Pink Day are here: http://www.swindoncricketclub.co.uk/news/can-you-support-karen-millar-pink-day-set-for-sat--2435365.html
