Cricket, events and lawnmowers…..

During the last two weeks:

Cricket
Seniors - The senior league campaigns continue. The 1st XI remain unbeaten and are flying high in the league, with a tricky trip to Calne this weekend. The other teams have had mixed results, but it has been encouraging that a number of the standout performances in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th XI have been from products of our youth system – Cam Oliver, Preet Singh and Aman Jagdey to name just three.

Youths – across the age groups the youth teams continue to fly high in their leagues. Thanks go to the parents, helpers and coaches that help the games go ahead and ferry the children around! Testament to the strength of our youth teams has been the large number of youth players representing both district and County over the last few weeks.

We are still looking for people to write match reports. If you can write one for your team/match please send them through to Daniel Harris or Alex Kill who can publish them (or provide you the access rights to do so).

All Stars – we have started our All Stars (5-8 year olds) sessions, with over 45 children signed up. Both Sunday sessions have been in glorious sunshine and fun has been had by children and activators alike. It is great to see the children have fun, play outside and hopefully develop a passion for our great sport.

Sponsorship – we are pleased to say that Coe Capital Wealth Management have continued their support of the club. For the full story see: http://www.swindoncricketclub.co.uk/news/thanks-to-coe-capital-wealth-management-2425727.html

If you work for, or know, any potential sponsors or supporters, please contact Tom Foreman or Daniel Harris.

Events – In order to bolster club funds and provide something for the Swindon community we partnered with Adventure Cinema to put on an outdoor screening of Bohemian Rhapsody. The SOLD OUT event was a great success, despite the downpour an hour before gates opened. The success of the event was down to some brilliant volunteers on the day, including Andy Mildenhall, Kev Thompson (ground prep), Sarah and Sal Aubrey, Lara plus family and helpers (bar), Sarah Kill and Daniel Harris (kitchen and snacks) and Alex Kill, Laura Clark, Randy Roze and some more of Sarah Aubrey’s army of friends (marshals).

We are in discussions about holding another of these events later in the year, so keep your eyes peeled for tickets and volunteer opportunities where you may be able to watch the film for free in return for some of your time.

Grounds – The square and grounds are looking brilliant at the moment, thanks to Kevin’s hard work. He is always on the lookout for anyone who could help by mowing the outfield, so if you can spare a few hours please let him know.

This task has just been made easier as we have acquired a free sit on mower – you should have seen the smile on Kevin’s face!

175 – Tickets are on sale now. Please spread this message far and wide. We have a great series of events planned and we hope club members across the age groups will support these events and help us celebrate the significant 175 year milestone. Tickets and event details are here: https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/whats-on/swindon/swindon-cricket-club/swindon-cricket-club-175-year-celebration-weekend/2019-07-06/13:00/t-oaojxx

A 175 anniversary book is being compiled by local historian Dick Mattock. £20 secures one of these books and if purchased in advance the book will include your name. Please speak to club President Randy Roze about this. If you have any old club photos or memorabilia please contact Daniel Harris as it may make the final edit!

Upcoming events:
May half term – Head Coach Wayne is putting on a half term cricket camp at the end of May. Please see the website for more details and how to book. It represents a great opportunity to spend time with a top coach for a bargain price.

TBC – Keep your eyes peeled for details of our youth cricket world cup event and ‘Pink day’ in aid of Cancer charities. If you could lend a hand with either of these please step forward – a small amount of your time can go a long way.

Weekend of 6th/7th July – the ‘175 celebration weekend’ – keep this clear in your diary and join us at one of the events to celebrate all things Swindon CC and have a good time in the process
