Swindon players pick up two awards

Last night Daniel Harris, Christy, Millar and James Parkinson represented the club at the Wiltshire County Cricket League (which our 2's, 3's and 4's play in) at their annual AGM.

While not a full record, the points below cover some of the main topics discussed:

  • Groundsmen across the County were thanked by the league for their efforts during a tough year weather wise (double snow in March and then a prolonged hot spell).
  • Clubs were reminded about discipline issues, which increased in the second half of the season (although it is of note SCC were not involved). The league committee felt issues were much easier to deal with if there were two non-playing umpires standing.
  • Clubs were reminded that their Welfare Officer must be ‘properly qualified’ as per the WCCLs requirements - news on this role coming soon at SCC.
  • Online scorecards well received by clubs through the leagues and further use of online player forms to be rolled out to record officers, captains etc.
  • The league accounts were reported to be in good order - no increase to league fees! Fines almost doubled but mostly due to admin errors.
  • The AGM proposals/votes led to minor alterations to disciplinary rules, player transfer rules (to facilitate people getting cricket), Duckworth Lewis (rolled out to Divisions 1-3), rearranging fixtures and umpires bonus points (returning to the 3, 2, 1 point structure of 2017)
  • A club led (not SCC) proposal for 40 over matches in Divisions 8 & 9 was not successful.
  • The following stats were shared - 2335 players across leagues, 200,000 + runs were scored, 9700+ wickets taken and approximately 65000 person hours of cricket were played!

At the end of the evening league and player awards were handed out. Congratulations to all those clubs and individuals that received awards, with a special mention for our own Scott 'McMaidens' McNeil (Div 1 Bowler of the Year) and Cameron 'Wonderkid' Oliver (Div 8 Bowler of the Year).

Swindon CC would like to thank all of the committee members who help to run the league and facilitate such a large amount of cricket in the County - you do a great job! We would also like to say thanks to Wadworths for their continued sponsorship of the League.

We now look forward to the 2019 season getting underway!
