Swindon Are Wiltshire Champions

Alex Kill

Victory Over Amport CC By 5 Wickets

Swindons run in the national cup competition rolled on with a strong win against Amport CC to claim the Wiltshire champions title.

After losing the toss and being asked to bowl, Swindon quickly found a breakthrough with a run out early in the first over. A smart catch soon followed by Liam Tucker off the bowling of Alex Kill to leave Swindon with a dream start of 13-2 off the first over.

In the 3rd over, Chris Aubrey snatched a tough caught and bowled chance. James Parkinson managed to find the edge an over later to leave Amport on 34-4 off of 4 overs and in a tough position.

A solid partnership from the last 2 men began to build, and a few dropped chances opened the door, however when Kill removed the next wicket with the score on 68, a par score was always going to be difficult to set.

Jake Goodwin bowled a tight 11th over which included the final wicket, setting Swindon 71 for victory.

In reply, Goodwin and Kill got off to a watchful start, picking up singles and being helped by a swinging ball that was proving difficult to control.

As the pair grew into the innings, the run rate began to increase, with a couple of hard hit boundaries from both batsman pushing the total onto 59 with still half the innings remaining.

Goodwin quickly retired bringing Aubrey to the crease, who calmly carried on where Goodwin had left off. Swindon then lost their only wicket of Kill who was caught behind off of a lose shot.

Tucker came to the crease with only 9 runs required, which the pair soon knocked off to see Swindon win by 5 wickets.

We now move on to play Tyword House next Sunday at Marlborough. Thank you to those who came and supported the team, if you would like to come and watch next weekend, your ongoing support is much appreciated.
