First silverware of 2019

Following their win a week ago in a 'winner takes the league' fixture the indoor 1st team completed the league and cup double yesterday with a brilliant set of performances across the semi and the final.

After a dominant display against Whitehorse CC in the semi final (109-2 then dismissing them for 47) the team found themselves up against old foes Coastal Cobras CC - who they had also been battling for the league title.

The team yesterday contained a few players who had stepped up from the Indoor 2nd team as cover for a number of players away on County duty or who had stepped aside for tour.

The final started with one of the players to step up, Preet, taking the shiny new ball and picking up a wicket in his first over. Despite a good scoring rate, wickets continued to be taken, leading to the cobras being bowled out for 88 in the last over. Standout performances of 3-0-30-2 for Preet and 2.2-0-9-1 for Arul.

The run chase couldn't have got off to a better start with the ever reliable Liam Tucker and cup opener JP both retiring on 25. This left 17 to get off the last three overs - a walk in the park? Not this time. Some good Cobras bowling saw the team need 8 off the last three balls! They didn't manage to get them, but as the scores were tied and SCC had lost less wickets they picked up the win!

Congratulations to all the guys who have played across the league and cup team this year. It is particularly pleasing to also see some talented young and new cricketers to the club contribute in a pressure situation final.

Hopefully this form can roll on to the outdoor season which starts with friendlies this weekend.
