After Twyford House won the toss, Swindon were asked to bat first and made a positive start with Alex Kill and Liam Tucker taking 12 off the first over.
A tight second over followed only allowing 6 runs, however Kill and Tucker put this behind them quickly with 17 coming off the next.
The scoring continued at a good rate, with a couple of 6’s for Kill and some well run 3’s for Tucker seeing them retire in quick succession.
Chris Aubrey and Marc Williamson came to the crease with a great platform, which Aubrey immediately began to build on.
Williamson however, who had brought himself into the team as Player/Manager, was overcome by the occasion and hit his first ball high into the ceiling, being caught for 0.
This setback did not deter Swindon. Dan Harris settled into his innings and they continued to score heavily. Both he and Aubrey retired at 25.
James Parkinson then played a handy role lower down the order, steering the ball into the corners and taking quick runs to allow Kill, who had come back in, back on strike. He took full advantage of this, hitting 4 6’s in a row to see him retire for a second time.
Not to be outdone, Tucker returned to the crease to hit a flurry of 6’s to see him also retire for a second time. Aubrey reentered to see out the innings, setting Twyford House an incredible 191 to win.
Twyford House were unfortunate that the conditions of the game were not the same to which they usually play, which inevitably make keeping the score down an tough challenge.
In reply, they came out the blocks well with a boundary in the first over taking 10 in total. It wasn’t until a sharp short ball from Aubrey in the 3rd over did Swindon made a breakthrough. A perfect inswinging yorker a couple of balls later put Swindon further on top with the score 31 for 2.
A few overs of big hitting followed, however Swindon stuck to their task well, keeping the game under control. Parkinson’s tight 7th over produced the next wicket, with Tucker taking the catch to leave Twyford House on 63 for 3.
Harris continued to apply the pressure in the following over, although a waist high full toss brought a moment of controversy.
The batsman hit the ball into the roof and the catch was taken, but the question was whether it was a no ball. After a couple of conversations between the two umpires, they seemed the delivery to be legal and Twyford House were left staring down the barrel of an impossible task.
2 wickets fell in quick succession in the 9th over to Parkinson, giving Swindon a resounding victory of 123 runs.
Swindon will now go on to the next round where they will face Truro at the County Ground in Taunton on the 3rd of March.
